HAMILTON ORPHANS.

CLOSING NIGHT OF SEASON A HAPPY EVENING. Nothwithstanding adverse weather and the numerous dounter-attractions which militated against a good attendance, there was a fairly representative gathering of local orphans on Saturday evening to celebrate the occasion of the club's " closing night ". President Dr. Hugh Douglas occupied the chair and the club's guardian, Bro. Hon. J. A. Younc, ably supported him. The following brethren contributed to the programme:—Song, Bro. Watson; pianoforte duet, Bros. Battersby, and Harrison; song, Bro. J. A. Young; elocutionary item, Bro. B. Waite; song, Bro. J. T. Battersby; song, Bro. Alex Grant. A community sing was also indulged in. In his " after supper " remarks, the chairman stressed the " duty " of happiness cast on members of the community. It was, he said, incumbent on all to foster " the cheer germ " and endeavour by ministering to the pleasure and enjoyment of others and by making their own fives and surroundings as bright and attractive as possible to make Ihe world a better and happier place to live in. The object of orohans' clubs was the cultivation of the spirit of happiness and fellowship among its members, and in that, the institution was doing a great work. If. was announced that the executive intended on November 3 to hold a social evening for the entertainment of the officers of the club and those who had contributed to the programmes during the season. ' With the singing of " Auld Lang Syne," was brought to a close one of the most successful sessions in the life of the club. \.
