REAL GOOD PUMMELLING.
ASSAULT NEAR DANCE HALL. YOUTH CALLED OUT. An assault outside a dance hall on Saturday night led to a young man named Clarence Bernard O'Brien appearing before Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., to-day, charged with striking' Thomas Leslie Kelly. Senior Sergeant Sweeney said the incident occurred when a dance was taking, place. O'Brien attended the pictures on Saturday evening and then went to the Regent Cabaret. Kelly emerged on receiving a message that he was wanted outside. O'Brien then gave him a "real good pummelling." Kelly denied that he took off his coat and had a stand-up fight. Accused, said the Senior Sergeant, was a rather Irresponsible individual. O'Brien fold His'Worship that Kelly took off his coat and "donged him one" first. Asked the reason for the assault, O'Brien said Kelly had been saying things about him. His Worship fined accused £3, with costs, remarking that he had placed an extra £1 on for accused's want of candour. An order for payment at the rate of 15s weekly was made^
