HERBERT SMITH FUND.

TROPHIES BEING ALLOTTED. DEVELOPMENT OF YOUTH. A large number of trophies for athletic 'competition are being distributed by the trustees of the Herbert Smith Trust Fund, the trustees of which are Mr G. B. Smith and Mr R. English, of Hamilton. There are also quite a number of applications in for trophies, amongst the applicants being primary and secondary school headmasters and convent authorities.

It will he remembered that the late Mr Herbert Smith, of Hamilton, bequeathed £IO,OOO to be spent over a period of seven years, in prizes for athletic competitions amongst New Zealand children between the ages of nine and 13 years. The testator's object was Lo stimulate enthusiasm in the development of the youth of the country into hardy- and characterful men and women.
