MARKETING PRODUCE.

PRODUCERS TO CONTROL. N.S.W. MARKETING BILL. EFFECT ON PRICES. Prom canary seed to butter, the primary producer is to be given almost complete control over the sale of his products, under a bill introduced in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly to amend the Primary Products Act. Mr Thorby (Minister of Agriculture) was subjected to a constant cross-fire of interjection in the course of his explanation of the measure. The Opposition did not hesitate to exploit the possible effect of the Bill on prices. The Minister explained that if it were possible for producers to get more for their prodlucts here than oversea, they would get it. Producers would be able to show a reasonable return. Mr M'Girr: So a board will be able to fix the selling price? Mr Thorby: Does anybody suggest that the producer should not say at what price he will sell his goods? A voice: You would not allow the workers to fix the wage for their own work. Mr Thorby replied that wages were fixed by arbitration, but no such tribunal fixed the return to Ihe producer. The bill provides for consumers' representatives to be replaced by Government nominees for the establishment of electoral districts, preferential voting, and appeals by persons omitted from the rolls.
