Over a dozen persons were killed and many injured as the result of the Empire Day holiday accidents. Tne deaths included the parents of three children (who were all injured), in a collision at a level crossing at Locuyt Hill between their automobile and a train. Seven men were drowned in canoe accidents on the Abitibi River, North Bay.
