CAPETOWN, May 25. A bitter two-days' debate in the Assembly arose out of the AuditorGeneral surcharging the Minister of Posts (Hon. W. B. Madeley) with £231 for the use of a motor car for private purposes, which the Premier subsequently condoned. General Smuts to-day regarded the allegation against the auditor as most grave, and demanded a judicial inquiry.

The Premier offered a Committee of Parliament to inquire, .which the Opposition accepted.
