THE WINTER SHOW.

The annual exhibition held under the auspices of the Waikato Winter Show Association will be officially opened by the Right Hon. .1. G. Coates, the Prime Minister, on Tuesday next, and Hie indications are that it will be fully up to the standard which has made the gathering famous throughout the Dominion. Its progress has been continual from its inception, and the benefits it has conferred upon the town and district would be difficult to appraise. Established twenty-one years ago, when Waikato was little known and lightly regarded, by a coterie of enthusiastic, energetic and far-sighted men who had confidence in the productiveness of South Auckland soil, the hislory of the association has been one of uninterrupted success. Each succeeding year it lias chronicled progress, and it lias contributed in no small measure lo the prosperity and development of the district. It has attracted visitors from all parts of the Dominion, who have been markedly impressed by the productiveness of I lie soil as evidenced by the display of products entered for competition, and I his has been instrumental in inducing numerous desirable settlers to come, amongst us. From this aspect alone the annual gathering has been well worth white, but it has many other attributes. As an educational agency it possesses great value.' It does much to induce healthy rivalry between the residents of the several districts, and this materially assists in the development of the whole. In nothing is this more evident than in the District Courts, which will be a feature of this year's exhibition and which the association is particularly anxious to assist. As a social function the show has much merit, and it docs a great deal to foster latent talent through its schools and home industries sections. In one or other of its many ramifications the annual exhibition of the Waikato Winter Show Association offers benefit and advantage to every person in the community, and therefore it is worthy of the liberal support and patronage of all.
