DEVONPQRT RETFENCHES. AUCKLAND, Thursday. A decision lo dispense with the services of five employees was made by Ihe Dcvonport Borough Council last evening. A report from the engineer, foreman and town clerk stated they had gone into the list of men employed and the money available, and had, reluctantly to recommend that five men should be dismissed. ” We have now a stuff of 30, euL down in 12 months from 100,” said the Mayor, Mr E. Aldridge. “ It is very regrettable, but il' wc have not got the money we cannot pay it out in wages.”
