MATAMATA.
Anglican Church. All Saints' Church was crowded to the doors on Sunday last when 45 candidates were presented to the Bishop of Wcikato for couilrmation. In an eloquent address His Grace impressed upon his hearers the necessity for conforming to the rules of the church and expressed his pleasure that there were so many candidates of a mature age. Special hymns and music were rendered by a full choir, Mr P. Ingham presiding at. the organ. Rev. C. W. Turner (vicar) assisted the Bishop in his ministrations, with Messrs W. 0. Garland and W. G. Caitcheon representing the lay-readers. The congregation was Ihe largest ever seen at the church, and the necessity for a larger building is evident. Presbyterian Church. At a meeting of the Ladies' Guild, Mrs \V. M. Griffiths, who is leaving shortly to reside in Auckland, was the recipient of a presentation of a silvermounted walking-slick as a slight memento of her fellow-workers' esteem and appreciation of her labours in the guild. In handing Mrs Griffiths the gift, Mr F. Jones expressed his own and tin church members' regret at losing hei services.
