Plng-Pong Opening. Although the ping-pong opening on Wednesday night was not favoured with very pleasant weather there was a fair number of enthusiastic players present. A tournament was played, the winner of the ladies' being Miss L. Hay and of the men's Mr S. Griffin. Supper brought to a close a very enjoyable evening, and ping-pong promises to be a very popular pastime for the winter evenings again. Sickness. Sickness is fairly prevalent in the -district just now, there being several.
cases of influenza and also bad colds about. Personal. Mrs R. Kirkby, of Maungatautari, is spending a holiday in Auckland. Mrs T. Roberts, of Bombay, spent a few days with her sister, Mrs P. A. J. Strawbridge. The Weather. The weather during the week was very unpleasant, there being he?vy storms practically every day. The ground is well soaked and it is hoped that the weather will be more settled now.
