NEW ZEALAND LEADS THE WORLD. MAUDE ROYDEN'S TRIBUTE. A tribute to the great work New Zealand is doing towards reducing infant and maternal mortality was paid by Miss Maude Hoyden, when speaking at the civic reception given lo her at Hamilton yesterday, she referred to lhe Karitane homes as I lie supreme conception in bringing down the death rate. In England the leaders of reform looked upon New Zealand as lhe great pioneer in all progressive movements. When British women were struggling for enfranchisement New Zealand women already were enfranchised, and she had, she said, held them up as the ideal from thoussands of platforms, as the great example which British women should copy. She hoped on her return to England, she added, to interest ' the people sufficiently in the Karitane scheme, lo get a similar scheme started there. While she confessed she had never previously heard of Karitane, if was. nevertheless, exactly the kind of thjng she had expected to find here. The work which New Zealand was doing in the'interests of child life, which had made the .Dominion world pioneers, convinced her thai Ihere was no place in the world where a child had a bettor chance of growing up fit aa4 wilL LAhpi.hisjuJ
