TE AWAMUTU BOROUGH.

MEETING OF COUNCIL. HOSPITAL LEVY DISCUSSED. Tim fortnightly meeting of Ihc To Awamutu Borough Council was held on Monday evening. There were present the Deputy Mayor and Crs C. Reilly, J.. Marshall, G. Gifford, W. J. North, W. Swain and C. Bygrave. The Town Clerk, Mr D. Borkett, and the engineer, Mr W. D. B. McCurdie were also present. The Council decided to put up a fence in Albert Park, so that big stock can be kept off the football grounds. ! Sheep only will be able to feed there. The question of the erection of a bowser on Messrs 11. Andrew and Son’s property was discussed. Though it was tp be erected on, their own property, cars that stopped there might encroach on the footway'. It was felt that some license fee should he paid. Cr. Reilly pointed out that until some complaint had been made, he did not see that the Council could do anything. The Works Committee report was adopted. The Borough solicitors notified the Council that they had gone into the matter of the loan for the amount to pay the County, but the treasury had pointed out that £ll4 10s 8d of the amount had to be paid out of revenue, they therefore recommended that only £9OO be raised by way of loan. The loan could be raised without asking the Loans Board. The clerk was instructed to deal with the necessary details and report to the next meeting, whether the money was obtainable. Messrs Collins and Downes forwarded plan of a subdivision in Brady St. on behalf of Mr T. Spear, for the Council’s approval. The approval was given. Hospital Levy. The secretary of the Waikato Hospital Board notified the Council that its levy for the Board this year would he £531 4s 4d. The chairman commented that it seemed to him that landowners wore paying rather more than their fair share of contributions to the Board. •It was decided to ask the Board for names of defaulters from the Borough. The account was passed for payment. The Te Awamutu Fire Board notified the Council that its quota for this year’s estimates to the Board would he £260. Cr. Reilly, the Council’s representative, pointed out in defence of the increase, that a lot of the new gear they were purchasing this year should have been procured long ago; tno brigade was In a much higher state of efficiency than ever before. The Valuer-General notified the Council of the regulations dealing with the appointment of an assessor for the Borough. The Town Clerk said he had called for nominations. If more than one were nominated, a public meeting would have to be called to elect the Borough's assessor. Domain Board. The annual meeting of the To Awamutu Domain Board was then held, the same members being present. The clerk read the annual report which showed an expenditure of about £SO, with the estimated receipt including ground rents of about £9O, leaving a credit balance of about £4O. This was adopted.
