MOTOR LICENSES.
MUST BE RENEWED. A WELLINGTON JUDGMENT. HAMILTON DECISION REVIEWED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Mr Page, S.M., to-day convicted several defendants and ordered them to pay costs for driving unlicensed cars or driving without drivers’ licenses. He said Mr Luxford’s decision at Hamilton was not a subject of appeal. Mr Luxford had dismissed the cases under the Justices of the Peace Act, and under the section in question the decision was not subject to appeal. Mr Page said it was clear from the Statute that the license was an annual one. The specifications said the license was to be applied for and issued annually. There was no power to grant a license for a longer period. The contention for the defence conflicted with both the spirit and the letter of the Statute.
