Chief Detective Cameron stated that the acceptances were given lo the newspapers with permission to distribute them to Press Association members and defendant had no right to copy and publish them. It was claimed that this caused a drop of 39 in the sale of official books at the meeting. The Chief Detective handed in an Auckland publication which had been prosecuted and convicted. j Counsel, for the defence stated that the Auckland publication definitely stated it was a programme, but the Sporting Guide did not. People bought it as an indication of turf form. The Magistrate, in reserving judgment, staled that at present he did not think the publication purported to be a programme.
