DIRECTOR VERY PLEASED

EXCELLEXT WORK BY CAST. Mr Rudall Hayward, who acted as director of “Hamilton’s Hectic Husbands,” seen by a Waikato Times representative before his return to Auckland to-day, spoke in eulogistic terms of the work of all concerned, and predicted that the film would be a great success. “The work of the players was really excellent,” said Mr Hayward. “The three girls, Misses Doris Wheeler, Gladys Denz and Zelda Mason, went to all sorts of trouble to adapt, themselves to the exacting demands of the camera, and their convincing work is deserving of the greatest praise. Of the three ‘lovers’ Mr E. Quill is one of the best natural comedians I have seen, and if he was in the business professionally he would go far. Unfortunately the openings in New Zealand at' present arc limited, and the profession in America is overcrowded. Mr Tony Firth is very good looking and a good screen type, and though an inexperienced actor he improved as the work proceeded. Mr J. Lang is a quieter type of comedian than Mr Quill. He has good facial expression. and showed great promise.

“Of the husbands,” continued Mr Hayward, “Mr W. 11. Frye stands out. He has splendid facial expression and artistic restraint, the latter being a verv important factor in screen work. Messrs W. Blythe and W. Powell follow him closely, both having much ability and a great deal of enthusiasm, which of course goes a long way. The W ivcs—Mesdames Bartlett, Gronwall and Nash —have pleasing personalities, and till their roles very well. “Mr Manning,” said Mr Hayward, “is to be congratulated on the splendid cast, lie had gone to a lot of trouble in selecting and coaching the cast,, and must lie pleased with the result. Mr Hayward expressed his gratitude t 0 Mr A. E. Manning (producer), the cast, Mr S. Tombs (manager of Hamilton Theatres), the military and railway authorities, Mr Griggs (property mail), Mr u. Tristram (assistant camera man), Mr Watson, photographer (whose “stills” for display purposes are the best lie has ever had), and the other people who helped in various ways to make the film a success. The film will be developed in Auckland and then sent to the censor in Wellington. It is expected that “Hamilton's Hectic Husbands” will be ready for public screening within a week or two.
