WAITOA DRAINAGE BOARD
THE APRIL MEETING. At the April meeting of the Waitoa Drainage Board, held at Te Aroha yesterday, Mr Vercoe wrote objecting to the proposed Waitoa Township drainage scheme, on the ground that he would receive no benefit. The clerk stated the objection had been noted. The board decided to apply for consent to raise a loan. Mr W. R. Johnson, engineer, reported that pipes at Waitoa had been satisfactorily laid. A portion of Nola's outlet could be widened at a reasonable cost. —The board agreed to carry out the work.
The clerk (Mr Rowbotham) read a letter from Mr J. D. Patterson consenting to a culvert on the western side of No. 8 road.
The chief engineer, writing in regard to the Whakahora relief drain improvements, stated that at least £266 would have to be expended on the drain.
The clerk said that £2430 was in hand for the work. The cost of the canal was £7OOO. The board raised £SIOO, of which £3500 was for the canal, and the balance for other work.
It was decided to sign the agreement.
Reporting on the Central area improvement scheme, the engineer stated the cost would be £4434 7s 6d, 'and that a subsidy of £ for £ should be applied for. The board agreed to inspect the work, and call a public meeting to discuss the merits of the scheme.
