EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS.
SYDNEY'S GREAT GATHERING. SOUVENIR PORTFOLIO ISSUED. Thousands of devoted Catholics from many countries, covering all ranks and classes from august Papal dignitary to humble layman, will join with Australasian fellow Catholics at Sydney in September in devotion to the Blessed Eucharist at the 2 9th International Congress. A souvenir has been prepared by the controlling committee and will be distributed free of charge to subscribers who lake part in the wonderful assembly, which will be one of the greatest and grandest religious functions in Australia's history. The souvenir takes the form of a loose leaf portfolio containing letterpress and separate plates of engravings, these being beautifully executed colour portraits of eminent prelates, Australasian and European, headed by the Pope and Cardinal Cerretti in the full pomp and splendour of pontiflcial and episcopal vestments. There is also a threecolour reproduction of the Congress banner, with the set prayer for success, as well as a view of Sydney Harbour from a painting by Erik Langker. The letterpress gives an interesting history of the growth of the International Eucharistic Congress from the germ planted over 50 years ago by Marie Tamisier, that humble Frenchwoman affectionately remembered as "the beggar-woman of the Blessed Sacrament." Other articles tell the story of Australia as a mission field, and of the beginning and growth of the Catholic Church in Australia; and the production as a whole presents in unique and artistic form an opportunity to preserve a literary and pictorial memento of a historical devotional gathering.
