AUCKLAND PRODUCE. Fowl Wheat. —The first *>f the new season’s grain is due from Canterbury next week, and this is selling to arrive at 8s 3d, against 9s for Australian. The price is expected to go lower still, when full supplies are available. The good harvest in Canterbury should result in low prices during the winter. Maize. —Only very small arrivals are to hand, and consignments have realised 6s on the wharf, even more being obtainable for a few small lots. Mcrchants have been able to pick up fair quantities at Gisborne, and these will cost Gs Id on the wharf. Oats. —Graded oats are scarce and difficult to secure in the south. Merchants, in the absence of grade, are now buying on sample, and are quoting ordinary feed at 4s Cd, and equivalent to A grade at ss. A good demand has come in for prepared oats for poultry —clipped, ground, and rolled. The quotation is 5s 3d, or Gs fid for hulled. Chaff. —An improved demand has come in, requiring larger importations from the south. Good quality is arriving, the market remaining steady, both here and in the south. Quotation ex store is £9 10s for old chaff, and new is not yet being dealt with.

Bran. —The dry weather is causing an exceptionally heavy demand, as large quantities are required for cows. To supplement the local milling merchants are importing from the south, and this line is firm at £7 ss. Potatoes. —The position has been somewhat relieved by the arrival of a few truck loads from Manawatu, and these are selling at 14s. Although not enough for Auckland requirements they have tended to ease the price of Pukekohe potatoes a little, and the latter are selling at 12s 6d. Onions —The market is quieter again, apparently owing to the growers having forced up prices to such a level that further orders for export have been passed. Whether they will be confirmed eventually is not known. The present quotation is 12s fid ex store. Eggs.—The natural curtailment of production as the season advances is being accentuated by the continued dry weather, and the scarcity caused the retail price to advance to 2s 2d. Seeds —The seed merchants are busy with orders for grass seed, but in the aggregate they do not amount to muen yet. The general impression is that not much permanent pasture will be broken up during the autumn, for a good many districts are so dry that their grass has not yet received much benefit from the spring top-dressing. These should come on well as soon as there is soaking rain. Seed orders appear to be chiefly for small clearings and for swamps that have been burned.

There was a very small attendance of butchers, and as a consequence a very dull sale resulted. A fair portion of the yarding was passed. The cattle offered comprised mostly good quality bullocks, but a slack sale resulted. Vealcrs sold on an average with late rates. We quote: Bullocks £l3 to £l3 10s, vealcrs £1 7s to £2 17s, wethers 23s to 2Gs, ewes 17s Gd to 20s 3d, lambs 19s !o 25s Gd, porkers 33s to 3Gs. WOMEPi WHO BREAK DOWN. TO MANY FAMILY CARES.
