Civic pride is worthy of being fostered to the full.

United Effort end Town’s Progross.

There cannot be too much of the right brand in this

direction. The Franldon Citizens’ Association showed itself alive to the subject at its latest meeting. It was no menacing attitude, but an earnest desire to attain results that will make for progress all round. Directions were stated in which wide-awake effort could be shown, and Frankton, through direct representation in the different public and semi-public organisations in the town, would be taking its share of the duty. In looking after the interests of others one’s own can also be given rightful attention, ft is the united effort that returns the maximum* of result, and Frankton, through its Citizens’ Association, is to be complimented on the foresight that is being displayed in this matter.

zens’ Association this week one of the subjects discussed was the

smoke nuisance at assumed a serious aspect was given the railway junction. That it has substantiation through the fact that the business men of . Frankton had presented a petition to the Association in the earnest desire that some steps would be taken to minimise the evil. There is ample evidence to show that the stocks in the shops are materially affected by the smoke, and financial loss is suffered. This is a serious matter, and if a way can be found to afford relief it is the duty of the Railway Department to exhaust that avenue. Business to-day Is fraught with sufficient drawbacks without adding to the trials by damage in the direction referred to. The Association will add a further link to the chain of its useful activity if it can get something tangible achieved in the abatement of a menace to the business area of Frankton.
