THE ROMA BORE. INDICATES LARGE DEPOSITS. /"■ BUT STILL NOT YET LOCATED. ‘United Press Association.} (Received Dec. 13, 12.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 13.
In his report to Hon. G. W. G. Marr, Federal Minister of Home Territories, Dr. Woolnough, the Commonwealth geological adviser, regarding the discovery of oil at Roma, states that in his opinion the question is not whether oil exists, but when and where it will be discovered. . He says the Roma discovery is genuine and of great imporatnee. It did not necessarily follow, however, that the long-awaited discovery of petrolcum in commercial quantities would be an accomplished fact. The product, of the Roma bore, which is technically termed filtered oil, was far removed in every, respect from the crude oil which is being sought. Refined olis kno\wi in several oilfields of the world, but in most cases they were regarded as ol interest rather than of importance commercially. The true significance-- of the Roma discovery lay in the fact that there . is now evidence of formation on a Aerj large scale of natural petroleums in that part of Queensland, and future operations must resolve themselves into a search for the still unknown oil pools whence the oils of Roma and other localities have been derived liy migration through rook formations.
