DR. BARNARDO’S FAMILY.

ALWAYS INCREASING. The family supported by Dr. Barnardo’s Homes claims to be the largest in the world. Its charter is, “No Destitute Child Ever Refused Admission.” That means that the password into the homes is destitution, and any child.that is in that unhappy state is received through the ever open door without waiting for puccess in a voting list or the overcoming of red tape. There is no waiting list, no voting, and no red tape to be encountered before admission.

On an average five new arrivals arc admitted daily throughout the year, and since first Dr. Rarnardo began his work 01 years ago, more than 103,500 boys and girls and babies have been welcomed. Last year the admissions wore 2061. The present size of the family circle is 8000. Twenty-four thousand meals have to be provided every day, so it can be readily understood that the food hill aloric is a very big item. Then think of the clothing needed of all sorts—the pairs of stockings and socks, boots arid shoes; to mention only these amongst all the other necessaries. There are also medical supplies ’to he kept up, for a destitritc child is often a delicate child and needs special care io build up its physique.

The council of the Homes seeks tjie co-operation of 'friends ■ all over the British Empire to help them to rear these children and to turn them into Al. citizens, ft is work well worth doing in the interests' of the Empire, for 80,000 of these children have been placed in the dominions overseas apd 98 per cent., have done well.
