ST. JOHN AMBULANCE.

PRESENTATION AT TE AROHA. On Thursday evening a large number of the staff connected with the Te Aroha railway station held a social. Mr Hayward presided. The object of the social was to commemorate a very successful passing of the railway students connected with the St. John Ambulance Association. Dr. W. R. Lawrence, in presenting the certificates to some 15 candidates, expressed the delight it gave him to officiate. Although one or two of the candidates expressed diffidence at their ability to combat the studies he felt sure that the pass would he satisfactory. A pass of 99 per cent was excellent. He trusted they would continue their studies and make themselves useful in rendering first aid when called upon. (Cheers). Mr A. J. Burrows presented Dr. W. R. Lawrence, the instructor, with a wallet and smoker’s outfit. The speaker referred to the interest that had been centred in the St. John Ambulance movement by Dr. Lawrence, and thanked him for the special interest he had taken in the railway class. (Applause). The railway ambulance secretary, Mr J. Cassidy, referred to the need of establishing a brigade at To Aroha. They had been advised to link up with Frankton, but Te Aroha had no community of inteicst with that town. It was proposed to arrange another class with Power Board employees, and when this was carried through the brigade would be assured. Dr. Lawrence informed the members that there was ample practice available, for certain members' could be told off to attend the ambulance during its attendance at various athletic fixtures. The programme was interspersed with vocal items and the usual toasts.
