RUSSIA AND POLAND.
A DEADLOCK. MOST SERIOUS DIFFICULTY. INTERESTS IN THE BALTIC. (Australian & N.Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON, October 3. The Riga correspondent of the Times says a deadlock has apparently becri reached in the negotiations between Russia and Poland for a pact, owing to Poland's determination to secure her interests in the Baltic. The Soviet has rejected all the Polish suggestions in connection' with these on the ground that they constitute an attempt by Poland to come between the Soviet and her other neighbours. The newspaper Izvestia says Poland's attempt to challenge and check the Soviet's influence in the Baltic States represents a most serious difficulty. It bluntly tells Poland that only when she adopts a disinterested attitude in regard to Baltic relations can the negotiations make any progress. .
