FIRE AT HAMILTN
—*—.—.— COMMERCE ST. OUTBREAK FLAMES SUCCESSFULLY CHECKED. An outbreak of lire in the living quarters of a simp at 103 Commerce Street, Frankton, required the services of the Hamilton Fire Brigade shortly after 7 o'clock last night. The brigade arrived promptly and coped with the fire successfully, confining the flames to the pantry and kitchen where the outbreak originated. In the temporary absence of the occupier. The shop is owned by, Mr. P. Devlan of Auckland and was occupied by Mr. T. J. M. Evans. The furniture was insured for £250 in the North British Office. It is understood the building was insured for £750 jn the State Fire Office. BOY'S PROMPT ACTION. SEVERAL EFFECT'S SAVED. Prompt action by a 15-year-old boy named George Fowler was responsible for the outbreak being suppressed in its early stages and he is to be commended on lu's presence of mind. With a companion, he was passing on a cycle when he noticed an, unusually bright glow at the rear o'f the building. Suspecting a fire he rushed round, but found the .door locked. After giving the alarm he broke it open, and entering, succeeded in removing a gramophone and several other effects.
