TOKOROA.

School Matters. The proceeds of a series of five socials have more than totalled the required £27 10s for the purchase of a school piano. In addition to this sum a generous donation of £lO in the interests of school improvement has been received from Mr L. J. G. Hamilton. It is understood the committee has already been complimented, through the Inspector's report, on the splendid upkeep of school and grounds, and with these funds in hand further good work is made possible. As evidenced also by the Inspector's report, the district is particularly fortunate in having secured the services of the present headmistress, Miss Surman. The educational progress of the children is described as good and the general tone of the school as excellent. The school attendance has risen to an average of 42, with 48 names on the roll. The services of an assistant teacher are to be looked for before long.
