RUGBY.

JNTER-ISLAND MATCH. WIN FOR THE SOUTH. WELLINGTON, Monday. Played in glorious weather, the in-ter-Island Rugby match this afternoon provided a great attendance of spectators with a game of thrills, characterised throughout by high scoring on both sides. Eventually it became a toss-up to which side victory would turn, but it rested at last with South Island by 31 points to 30. Not much in it, but sufficient to give the Southerners a deal of satisfaction, as it was their first win since 1922. The match proved one of the best of the series that has been played. The pace was on from the start and throughout the play was spectacular. Some of the work was really brilliant and a few of the tries that were scored roused the huge crowd to a high pitch of enthusiasm. Although only one point separated the teams at the finish, the South Island deserved to win by a igreatcr margin, as, territorially, it had a good deal the better of the play. The South Island was a better side as a combinalion, and right from the start of the game played as a team, whereas the North Island relied principally on its forwards, with its backs working individually rather than collcciively. TOUR OF SOUTH AFRiCA. ALL BLACK TEAM CHOSEN. WELLINGTON, Sunday. After the inter-Island match on Satardav the selectors announced the names of the following as having been chosen for the South African lour of the New Zealand Rugby team: — Grenside, M. Brownlie, C. Brownlie, Swain (Hawke's Bay). Robilliard, McGregor, Dalley (Canterbury) . ' Lindsay and Ilore (Otago). Finlayson (North Auckland). Stewart (South Canterbury). Harvey (Wairarapa). Hazlett (Southland).

Of the thirteen, the Brownlies, Robilliard, McGregor, Dalley, Stewart and Harvey were members of. the 1924 All Blacks who toured England. From Auckland's point of view, the inter-Island match was disappointing, as not one of Auckland's six representatives played up to standard. Johnson, McManus, Scrimshaw, Coulston, Burrows, Godfrey, Alley, Freitas, McWilliams, Bird.
