POLO.

THE MATANGI CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual meeting of the Matangi Polo Club Mr W. Franklin presided over an attendance of 17 members. Mr Franklin congratulated the club on the successful season which had been experienced. A team had been sent Ho Feilding to compete at the New Zealand tourney and had made a very good showing. Three teams had been put in the field at the South Auckland tourney and the club was one of the strongest numerically in the Dominion. A Polo Bail had been held which was generally voted a great success socially and also had proved a financial success, as over £7 profit had been made.

A New Ground. During the year a new playing ground had been laid down in grass after having been well levelled and graded, it was not thought advisable to play on this ground this spring, but it is expected that the South Auckland tourney will be held there in February and' by that time thcie will be few better playing areas in the Dominion. Two teams had promised to come up to the tourney from Hawke's Bay and the Manawatu and a revival in poio in the Auckland Province was confidently looked forward to.

The accounts for the past season were passed and showed that the club had made a profit of £2O on the year. , . . The following officers were elected. —President, Mr A. Miller; vicepresidents, Messrs A. L. Yule, W. G. Pountney, W. I. Taylor, T. Clarkin, H Windsor and W. Franklin; captain, Mr Vere Chitly; secretary, Air W. L. Ranstead; . selectors, Messrs Pilkington, Yule and Franklin. The subscription was fixed at £i Is. The following new members were elected:—Messrs R. Wright, R. Kidd, C Bryant, Cranston, A. Pretty, lan Oliver, S. MacMillan, H. Chapman, P. Clarkin,' T. Ransfead, C. Hinton. It was decided to hold the first practice on October 29 and the opening day would be on November 5. Votes of thanks to the ladies who contributed so greatly to the clubs success by providing tea on every Saturday during the season and aiso to Messrs Miller and Chitty for the use of the polo ground were carried \ vote of sympathy to the of the late Mrs J. Clarkin was passed.
