LISTENER’S CONFERENCE.

STANDARD OF PROGRAMMES. . . ONLY PROFESSIONAL TALENT. WELLINGTON, Friday. The musical co-ordinator addressed the Radio Conference to-day on the subject of musical programmes. He said in the past a false amateur standard had been created. It was the company’s aim to secure the very best talent in New Zealand, and the company was determined to employ only the best professional talent for the present. This did not mean that amateurs were to he turned down altogether. They would he encouraged when they reached the standard of the concert platform. Until then they should not he allowed to experiment at the expense of the public. In regard to jazz, Mr Bellingham said he had yet to hear a jazz band in Now Zealand which came up to what lie considered the requisite standard, and jazz music would be presented in Us least harmful form per the gramaphonc. The conference decided to support Mr Bellingham, especially in regard to jazz.
