Tiie two tail end men, Brooks and Cook, wdio had made such a determined stand on Saturday, continued their sturdy defence to-day, and surprised the New Zealanders by their spirited play. Cook placed ill's strokes perfectly, I hough bolli bowling and fielding were most accurate, and the keen pair added 115 more in 110 minutes, making 195 l'or the ninth wicket, and very nearly succeeded in saving a follow-on. Cook passed his century and remained unbeaten. Durham, on going in again, began well, Nichol scoring 50 in a breezy fashion in 50 minutes. At the tea adjournment only three
wickets were down for 83, but (in resu mi n g there was an amazing collapse. Cunningham, who mid not taken a wicket in the tlrst innings, and had generally been a failure so far, was the principal destroying age nt. Wi t h Henderson, who only li a d on e over, he wound up the innings in
short order. Neither howler was assisted by the wiclcet, and Cunningham bowled with real devil. The attendance was about 500.
