DESTRUCTIVE FIRES
PRIVATE HOSPITAL DESTROYED. AUCKLAND, Tuesday. A ninc-roomcd -building in Carlton Gore Road, known as Euroa Private Hospital, was destroyed by fl.ro about 4.30 yesterday morning. Two patients and their babies were removed from the building just before the roof fell in. Mr L. Hill, son of the owner, Mr W. Hill, had a particularly narrow escape. He was aroused by violent knocking en the door of his bedroom. The whole room was in flames. Unable to escape by the door lie made for Hie e imiow, and was severely bruised in clambering through. A minute later the walls of the. room collapsed. Mr Hill estimates the damage at nearly £4OOO. The building was. insured for £2OOO in the Sun Insurance Office, and the furniture for £OOO in the Atlas Assurance Company. Mr Ecclcs’ house, one j side of which was badly gutted, was insured for £SOO in the Royal Jnsur- j nnee Company, and the contents for i £3OO in ihe Mercantile and General iuauranco
