HOCKEY.

HAMILTON COMPETITION. ______ INTERESTING GAMES. Despite heavy conditions underfoot on Saturday a gnod standard of hockey was witnessed at Seddon Park, when the Killip Shield games were continued. Old Boys Colts showed good form in drawing with M'ouri, while Y.M.C.A. got home by ihc minimum against Hinemoa, who were shortliandcd. The junior games were very keen and play was of a good standard. Y.M.C.A. (1) V. HINEMOA (O.). In the opening stages Hinemoa attacked, but being shorthanded in the front line Y.M. had no difficulty in clearing and for a period keeping the blues "busy. A very solid defence was offered Y.M.'s many smart attacks and no score resulted. , Hinemoa conceded three corners in close sequence, but inferior work by the attackers relieved the pressure on each occasion. A period of neutral play followed, during which both teams lost scoring chances. Hinemoa's defence was particularly good. Half-time came with no score. On resuming, Y.M. sot up a solid attack, but Hinemoa continued to do good work in defence, the whole of the backs playing very soundly, while the forwards made occasional sallies towards Y.M.'s goal, but could make no impression. Y.M. made many snappy attacks, but ball control was weak and no score resulted until Clough, at centre-half, followed in ancV sent In a dandy shot, which found the top corner of the net. The game continued fast, and Hinemoa narrowly missed equalising, Sutherland being slow with his centreing hit. Hinemoa's defence continued solid and a finely-contested game ended with honour to Y.M.C.A. by one goal to nil. Mr K. P. Eade refereed. OLD BOYS COLTS (2) V. 'POURI (2). At the outset the Colts set up a hot attack and Fletcher Was kept busy. Sweeney gathered in a hard centre and sent in*a clinking shot, which found the top of the net. 'Pouri pressed, but the Colts were playing with great keenness and scoring efforts were well cleared, and they went smartly to 'Pouri's goal, where Stevens sent in a brilliant shot. The spell ended with the Colts two up. The second session saw 'Pouri settle down to better combined work and Colts found relief in a corner, from which Thomas penetrated with a hard shot. A period of even play followed, both sides finding difficulty in controlling the leather in the heavy going. 'Pouri came again and Colts were compelled to concede a corner, Thomas again making no mistake with the shot. With the scores even strenuous efforts by both sides failed to effect any improvement and a fine game ended with the scores two all. Mr W. G. Fabling refereed. JUNIOR GAMES. ST. JAMES (5) v. HINEMOA (0). St. James, who are the leaders of the junior, competition, gave Hinemoa a very solid time defending, in which their goalie saved many good shots.
