THE WHALER C. A. LARSEN.

NOW 1355 MILES OFF.

MESSAGES STILL HEARD WELL

The Norwegian whaling vessel, C. A. Larson, now bound from Wellington to San Francisco, and which is conducting radio tests with Wellington, is still heard in Hamilton. Last night, at about 6.45, despite bad static, the now familial- voice of the Norwegian operator, speaking in broken English, was beard calling, "Hullo, Wellington," and announcing the name of the ship. He said the ship's position at 2 p.m. that day was: long, 167.48 W., lat. 25.5G5., and that they were approximately 1355 miles from Wellington. A gramophone item by Caruso, a violin solo, " Alarcheta," and a fox trot followed, after which the operator said, "Hullo Wellington, are you still hearing me?" The transmission was nearly as loud as on the preceding nights, but owing to severe static was not as clear, and the operator's concluding remarks were indistinguishable. Quite a number of local enthusiasts reported hearing the vessel's transmission.
