Old Resident Returns. Mr E. J. Swann, who is taking up his residence here, is not quite a stranger, having lived in the district some 10 years 1 ago. Farewell Social. On Monday evening a farewell social to Mr and Mrs T. Taylor was held 1 in the hall, and was very largely attended. Musical items were provided by MissJj. Tompson (Bruntwood), Messrs ' C. Thompson, A. Webster, and Rev. j. Martin. Miss E. Dunford presided at the piano. Master G. Davidson (Newstead) contributed two recitations. On behalf of the residents of the district, Rev. Martin was called upon to make a presentation to the depart--1 ing guests. In a neat speech he referred to the long association with the district and to their willingness at all times to assist in its advancement. He asked them to accept a set of carvers as a token of esteem from the resi- " dents. . . ,. n Mrs T. Thompson spoke or me interest Mrs Taylor had always taken in the work of the Ladies’ Guild, and on their behalf presented her with a lovely silver teapot. After a dainty supper, provided by the ladies, dancing was indulged in for a couple of hours. , $ Burned. Misfortune is still dogging the footsteps of the farmers, the latest victim being Mr .1. Mjddlemiss.- who had a large stack of hay destroyed by fire.
