ARTIFICIAL LIMBS.
EX-SOLDIERS' COMPLAINTS.
THE MINISTER’S REPLY,
(Py Telegraph—Press Association.) • WELLINGTON, Tuesday.
A deputation representing the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association waited on the Defence Minister to-day, voicing dissatisfaction regarding the quality of the artificial limbs being supplied to amputees. It was stated that the questionaire had been sent around to limbless men in Dunedin, and of 14 replies only one had been in favour of the type at present in use.
' The, Minister said it was the department’s one object to do the very best it could for limbless men. The policy had been to try and find one standard limb that was better than anything else, and concentrate on that. If was also desirable that they should be turned out by one factory, as that made for better service. Although they had only one type, that did noa prevent the department supplying special types in special cases. No complaints had been received by ihe department from Dunedin and it would have been better if those dissatisfied had adopted the course of approaching the deparlment with a view to 'having the complaint remedied. The company supplying limbs for the past three years had made inquiries from 180 limbless, and of 91 replies only 14 were unfavourable. Ho would be glad if members of the deputation would go through the specifications for tlio new supply of limbs with the officer of the department and point out where they considered the specifications were at fault.'
