DOMAIN BOARD.

THE MONTH'S WORK. RAIN HAMPERS OPERATIONS. In his monthly report to the Hamilton Domain Board last night the chairman, Mr A. Swarbrick. stated that during Ihc month the work had been greatly hindered by Ihe almost constant rain. At the lake they had done further work in gravelling, clearing and levelling the drive. They had restored and re-boarded the wooden dressing enclosure for men at -the bathing place, and had made general preparations for the coming season. The report continued: "At Seddon Park we have had great difficulty in dealing with the grass owing to the heavy growth and constant rains. We have now got one of the rotary mowers in good order, and with'the co-opera-tion of the crickelers hope to sec these lands in good order for Ihc coming season. As requested by the Cricket Association, at I heir cost we have rolaid the two clay pitches, which aro now most satisfactory. We have cut the grass at the plantation near the railway and cleared and dug around all the trees. "At Steele Park we have erected two strong and suitable gates to the playing field. We propose to put the fence at the south-east corner of this park once more in good repair so as to prevent persons walking across the playing field. We have ctit and rolled the ground and the grass is now coming on rapidly; with careful nursing during the corning season and topdressing in the autumn this will prove a most satisfactory ground and suitable for both football and cricket. I am pleased to say we arc receiving the cordial support of the crickelers and general public of Hamilton East in the development and maintenance of these lands. The cricket and bowling plubs have given us £lO from the proceeds of the fete held bythem and the Hamilton East Cricket Club has given us £25 from their funds. The board will, of course, make a suitable acknowledgment of this kindly and generous assistance, and I propose that we devole part of this money to the purchase of a suitable roller to be kept at Steele Park. To develop the-pit-ches and grounds there it is necessary that they should be frequently rolled. Our present roller is required during the cricket season at Seddon Park, and to move it constantly to Steele Park would involve great expense, besides the inevitable wear and.damage to tlia roller.
