UNEMPLOYED GIRLS.
POSITION IN HAMILTON
DIFFICULTY IN OBTAINING WORK
From inquiries made it would appear that Hie unemployment problem as regards girls in Hiuirillon is much more acute than that affecting the men. Parents are experiencing difficulty in placing their girls in suitable avenues of employment, in spite of strenuous efforts to lind them work. Even though the class of applicants is good and they have the necessary Qualifications, they arc often disappointed in trying to obtain a position and their names arc usually relegated to the waiting list. The girls are naturally anxious to assist the parents en whom they may be to a large extent dependent, while the modern spirit of independence urges I hem to go to work even where il is nol absolutely necessary. The millinery and dressmaking trades yearly absorb a large number of girls, but cannot lake all who wisli to find work of that nature. Other girls enter domestic employment, hid the majority prefer the duties of office clerks and shop assistants.
