The girls are naturally anxious to assist the parents en whom they may be to a large extent dependent, while the modern spirit of independence urges I hem to go to work even where il is nol absolutely necessary. The millinery and dressmaking trades yearly absorb a large number of girls, but cannot lake all who wisli to find work of that nature. Other girls enter domestic employment, hid the majority prefer the duties of office clerks and shop assistants.
