AUSTRALIAN EXPORTS.
FEDERAL SUBSIDIES. CANNED AND CITRUS FRUITS. In consequence of the reduced crops in the expired season of apricots, clingstone peaches, and pears suitable for canning, the Federal Government has revised its terms of financial assistance to exporters. The subsidy on apricols is to be limited to 9d a dozen 30oz. tins, but on clingstone peaches il is to be raised from 3d to is. Not less than £lO a ton is to be paid by canncrs at the orchards, or at the growers' sending stations for purchase. The canned fruit is to be exported before February 28, 1927, and the grading, packing, and labelling are lo conform lo the commerce regulations. x The Minister for Markets must be satisfied that the fruit has been sold in Great Britain under its original label, that the price is Ihc best obtainable, and that the marketing and other arrangements are satisfactory. It has been decided by the Federal Government to grant an application by the citrus fruit growers for financial assistance on the 1926 export, by accepting the advice of the Board of Trade, for a guarantee of out-of-pocket expenses incurred in placing the fruit on the overseas market.
The guarantee, which is to be limited to £2500, is to be based on the average price realised by each grower on the whole of his fruit, with a maximum of Gs a case of one and a third bushels.
The payment is lo be limited to exports to the United Kingdom, and is to apply where the fruit arrives in a deteriorated condition not due to the fault of the exporter.
