MURDER IN GANG FEUD
"KID DROPPERS AND LITTLE AUGIES." A STOLEN SWEETHEART. NEW YORK, April 30.
The appalling crime problem of the United Stales lias received yet another dramatic illustration in a series of 11 murders arising out of a feud between two gangs known in the underworld of New York as "Kid Droppers" and "Little Augies." The feud had its origin in the "theft" of Kid Dropper's sweetheart, Edna Churgin, by Louis Schwartzman, nick-named "the Midget." Three days after the theft "the Midget," as lie sat with Edna on a doorstep, was shot dead. k Dropper, whose real name is Jack Kaplan, was charged with the murder but was acquitted. As lie left the courthouse he-was in turn shot dead. For this crime Louis Cohen, of Little Augie's gang, is now serving a life sentence.
The next to fall was Meyer Albcrl, who, after the incarceration of Cohen, aspired to the leadership of Little Augie's men. Morris Grossman was indicted for shooting Albert but was acquitted. The sequel to his acquittal was the discovery of his body in a burning motorcar a few days later. The corpse contained five bullets. Another man named David Bran was found dead shortly after this in a motor car which apparently had collided with another car while Bran's body was being carried to the river. The deaths of Bran and Albert were preceded by that of Charles Rosenhaus, of Kid Dropper's gang. A man named Goldberg was indicted for shooting Rosenhaus but was acquitted In similar fashion four members of the rival gang all met their deaths at the hands of assassins whom justice has failed to overtake. Now Goldberg has been lured to his death by an unknown woman whose telephone call- caused liim lo turn back towards waiting assassins.
