PEDIGREE CATTLE.

N.Z- FRIESIAN ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL REPORT. The following is the report to lie submitted lo Ihe -annual meeting of the Association to he held at Palmo.rston North on Thursday. June 17: Agrieullural and Pastoral Association Shows.—The exhibits of pedigree Eriesians at, the principal Agricultural and Pastoral Association Shows were particularly good. Eriesians were of outstanding merit, at Maanwatu, Dunedin, Ohristctvnrrh (Royal) and Auckland Shows. At many of the other shows the Council notes with great pleasure that local breeders are exhibiting their Eriesians, thus enabling the value of Ihe breed to be brought before the notice of the public.

Provincial Group Competition.—The N.Z. Friesia.n Association gave £SO prize money for a provincial group competition at the 1025 Royal Showin Chrislchurch, each province to be represented by seven purebred Friesians. Four provinces. Southland, Auckland. Wellington and Canterbury, competed, and the competition was a preaf, success. rt is hoped that at the 1920 Royal Show in Auckland, the whole of the seven provinces will have entries for this class.

The Friesian section at. the Royal Show in Christchurch was probably the finest collection of Friesian dairy cattle ever seen in the Southern Hemisphere. Mr F. TI. Rul.terfie.ld, of South Australia, acted as judge, and his decisions met with universal approval. At Ihe general meeting of members of the Association, be was accorded a special vote of thanks for the careful and able manner in which he judged the section. Sydney Royal Show. —An unsuccessful endeavour was made to get an inter-State Friesian competition included in the 1026 Sydney Royal Show, hut if is hoped thai, such a competition will be arranged for the 1927 show.

Branch Associations. —Branches of the Association have been established in Wairarapa, Bay of Plenty and Rodiipv County. The following amounts, representing 10s Od per financial member, have, been paid to branch Associations for the year 1920-6: —Kait.aia £5 ss, North Wairoa £ll lis, Rodney £5 r,s, Auckland Central £22 lis Od, South Auckland £sl. Ray of Plenty £5 ss. Taranaki £2O 18s Cd, Wairarapa £2l 13s Gd, Wellington £53 (Is fid. Canterbury £26 2s Gd, Ofago £23 12s Gd, Southland £IS 7s 6d. The championships at the New Zealand Royal Agricultural Society's Show at Christchurch in November. 1025, were won Dy: —Hull, Rnsevale Inka Holland Prince, John I. Royds, Chrislchwch; cow. Hengervcld Belle Segis. Waitemata Stud Farm, Auckland. The N.Z. Friesian Association pave two sterling silver cups, value 20 guineas each, as special prizes at the Olago A. and P. Association's Show in November 1025. These cups were won by John Court, Ltd., with the bull, Sprinebank Zozo Mercena, and the Rloomfield Farm Co., with the cow. Willowvalc Galatea Segis. The North Island Champion Cups competed for at Ihe Auckland A. and P. Show were won by:—Bull, Piri Land Co.'s Colnntha Lad of Totara Park; cow. Waitemata Stud Farm's Hengervcld Belle Sccis. The South Island Champion Cups competed for at the Canterbury A. and P. Show were won by:—Bull, John I. Boyds's Rosevale Inka Holland Prince; cow, Waitemata Stud Farm's Hengervcld Belle Segis. Official Organ.—During the year the Dairyfarmcr was appointed the official organ of the Association, and an agreement made that every member of the Association was to be supplied with copies of that paper. This arrangement enables the secretary to keep members fully informed regarding the business or the Association. The N.Z. Farmer continues to be an official organ of the Association.

Year Book for 1025.—The Year Book, with records complete to December 31, 1025, has been distributed lo members and' others interested. The class leaders for the years 1013 and 10li have been included. Other additions are (a) list of dams with their proven sons, (b) highest producers in each class, (c) list of cows producing over 2000 gallons of milk in a year.

Herd Rooks. —Volume 14 was completed and sent to members in August, 1925. Volume 15 is now completed and contains registrations for the period ending March 31, 1026. Membership.—There are now 653 members belonging lo the Association. Export Certificates. Thirty-four export certificates were issued: S lo Victoria (Australia), 10 to New South Wales. 1 to Tasmania, and 15 to the Argentine. True type models, one quarter life size, have been ordered from the llolstcin-Friesian Association of America, and will be exhibited at various shows and used for demonstration purposes. Photographic Identification. —Each year's experience shows more conclusively the great safeguard lo breeders provided bv Ihe identification of Frisians by photograph. The Association can thus give purchasers an absolute guarantee Ihat Ihe animal they purchase is the correct one. Nnn-nolinViilimi of Mirths. —Members are required lo notify all births within 30 davs of Ihe end of the month in which Ihe birth lakes place. In spile of frequent reminders through ihe pages of Ihe official journals, members are si ill very neglectful; so much so, thai penalties totalling approximately ciso were Imposed for non-notifications for entries lor \olume 15. Conference or Judges. —A conference of official judges of the N.Z. PrieSian Association was held at, Christchurch during the Royal Show week to discuss mailers lending to secure uniformity of decisions in judging. The Council has arranged for a further conference lo be held in Palmcrston North at, 2.30 p.m. on .Tunc 17. The Council regrets In have lo record the deaths of Ihe following members of the Association: —S. Clements, Rotoluna, Waikalo: P. Qulnlan, Mnlamala- S. D. Mills. Nightcaps; W. Poole, Levin; It. Robinson, South Oamaru. The Wilber Remembrance trophy, competed for at the Manawalu A. and p Association's Show in November, 1925, was won by Ihe Pirl Land Co.'s team, and Iho cup was presented to Ihe winners by Ihe Hon. T). P. Wilber, who was on a visit to the Dominion. At the same Show, the Alia I.rival Cup for the best dairy cow or any breed was won by Mr O. Scoou's liahitield ir,lh and the Osmond trophy for the best dairy heifer of any hived was won by ihe Pirl Land Co.'s l.ebrina Clolhilde Alcarlra.

tions' Shows, thus enabling the public to sec the best animals; (b) by putting under semi-official test as many heifers nnd cows as possible: (o) by bringing before dairy farmers the benefits that -will accrue to them from using pedigree Priesian bulls. Conditions during Hie past, year have been good, aud the Council is of opinion that the Friesian breed, by reason of its all round excellence, will become more and more popular throughout the Dominion. Members of the Council wish to place on record their high estimation of the services rendered io the Friesian breed by Mr \V. D. Hunt, as a brooder, a member of fho Council for seven years, and as president of the Association for the years 1921-25.
