A POPULAR POLICEMAN.
TRIBUTE TO CONSTABLE CONNOR Constable W. J. Connor, who has for many years been stationed with ttie police force at Hastings, has been transferred to Frankton Junction on promotion. He was met by a gathering of about 120 friends at the Oddfellows' HaU, Hastings, to bid him farewell on the eve of his departure. A pleasant social evening was spent with song and story. Mr C. H. Slater, in presenting Constable Connor witli a token of the esteem in which he was held, said that Constable Connor was one of the most popular, capable and courteous members of the force in Hastings, and during his long stay in the town had found a warm spot in the hearts of the people. They were all pleased'that his services had gained recognition in the form of promotion, but it was with genuine regret that they accepted his departure. In conclusion the speaker wished Constable Connor and Mrs Connor success in the new surroundings to which they were going. The health of the guest of honour was then drunk with musical honours.
