AUSTRALIAN SENSATION.
TRAVELLER HELD UP. CONSTABLE ALSO FIRED AT. (Received June 7, 12.5 p.m.) SYDNEY. June 7. While motoring along a road near tho township of Collector, about 22 miles from Gouibourn, a commercial traveller was called on to pull up by a man on the road. Ho did so. As he could get no sense out of the man he prosumed he was Intoxicated, and drove on. Before he had proceeded many yards a shot was fired. The bullet passed through the hood of the car, and whizzed over the traveller’s head. The traveller informed the police at Collector, and with a constable returned to tho spot whero ho had stopped. Both entered the scrub adjoining the road. They were startled by tho report of a firearm. The bullet passed through the sleeve of the constable’s tunic. The flash appeared about 40 yards away.
The two then returned to Collector for additional police, and a black tracker is being sent from Gouibourn to assist In the search.
