BUTTER IN LONDON.
PRICES WELL MAINTAINED EFFECT OF THE STRIKE. PURCHASING POWER AFFECTED. (Australian and N.Z. Press Assn.) (Received Juno 7, 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, June 5. Rutter prices arc well maintained, although buyers are, not particularly active. Most of them are awaiting developments. They are fully aware that prospective supplies from Australa and New Zealand will lie considerably less than lliis time last year, but against tins they set a largo increase in homo and Continental production,' and ,a large quantity of colonial is known to lie held in cold stores. One important factor in the butter situation just now is a probable diminution of the demand owing to tho late general strike and the coal stoppage, which have reduced tiic purchasing power of many members of the community, and arc likely to cause them to abandon butter for margarine.
