Damage estimated at 300.000 dnlinrs resulted from a hundred separate conflagrations in llio residential district. 7\ie fires were started by blazing embers, borne by the wind from a baseball grandstand, where the lire originated.
Major Rolph describes the series as ihe worst in the city's history since (lie great fire of 1906.
