Mr Bishop, winner of tiio Calculta Sweep, acted on Hie principle that a few thousand pounds in hand was better than a problematical one hundred and twenty thousand pounds. First lie sold a half-share for £7OOO, then iie parcelled out (lie other threeciglitlis, retaining only one-eighth which was world £15,000. Ho estimated a clear win of £25,000.
It is interesting to note lliat the purchaser of a half share receives £OO,000.
Nr Bishop sat in his office at work throughout the race, and when a friend rang up on Hie telephone lie said quietly: “Thanks, very much.” Discussing the sale of shares, Mr Bishop said: “If I had had a little more courage 1 should have won a great deal more.” lie announced his intention lo continue working, allhough his employers stated lie had been granted indefinite leave and hud rather spoiled his chance of a rise next year.
