WHO IS RESPONSIBLE.

(To ihe Editor.) Sir.—An exceedingly awkward contretemps occurred last Saturday afternoon on Seddon Park. Two important Soccer matches were listed for that afternoon, and the two teams in the first game were lined up, with the official referee in attendance, duly armed with a whistle; but when the said referee looked at the spot where the ball should be the ball was non j est. Excitement ran high, but at this jtweture a youth with quite a good I ball—presumably his own property— i was observed sauntering nonchalantly | through the crowd. The eagle eye of i the referee lighting en the youth, the official was vociferous in his demand that the youth and the ball should part for the duration of the game which he was to control. The youth demurred at first, but eventually gave way, and a painful situation was saved. It was noticed that the identical ball did duty in the big match which followed, and a very pertinent question arises—who is responsible?—l am, etc., INTRIGUED. !
