AUSTRALIAN STRIKES.

THE HOURS DISPUTE. (United Press Association.) SYDNEY, June 2. Further trouble has developed in the.metal trade industry. The moulders employed by Williams and Company Limited, have struck, as they refused to work a six-days' week of 44 hours, which ,thc management demanded. Unless the dispute is settled other firms are expecled to be involved. Trouble Is also likely to occur at the Clyde Engineering Works. There the iron workers threaten to strike unless some men who were discharged in connection witli the recent 44-houra week arc engaged again. A message from Adelaide says the employees of Hie Broken Hill Proprietary at Iron Knob who struck yesterday because one man worked overtime, have resumed work. The management has agreed to transfer the man who worked overtime to another branch of the company's works. THE COAL DISPUTE. NO CHANGE. SYDNEY, June 2. The engine-drivers' and Firemen's Union announces that there is no change in the coal strike position. Unless the owners surrended the men refuse to return to work as they arc able to remain on strike for at least five weeks longer. At a meeting of the Miners' Delegates' Board at Newcastle it was decided to ask the central executive of the Miners' Federation to arrange for a further compulsory conference to be held between representatives of the engine-drivers and firemen, the colliery owners and the miners to deal witli the strike. ' It is understood that some of the lodge representatives advocated giving the engine-drivers a certain time in which, to end the strike, the miners then to resume work. They favoured this being the last course to be adopted, and then only if no other solution could be found.
