MAEROA LIGHTING.
DEPUTATION TO PREMIER. CHANGE OF SUPPLY SOUGHT. The Central Power Board at present serves the Macron district, which recently came into the Hamilton boroush, with electricity. Yesterday a deputation from the Maeroa Ratepayers’ Association asked the Prime Minister to allow the area to get' its electricity from the borough in future, as there was a difference of about 40 per cent, between the charges of the two hodieh. Mr Reekie and Mr Behay formed the deputation, and pointed out that the area was a rapidly growing one, which had practically tripled itself during the past three years.
The Prime Minis! atod out that the new arrangement could only come about with the general consent of the two bodies. Personally he considered Hamilton should have been given jurisdiction over a much larger area for the distribution of power. The Department was endeavouring to use what arguments it could to induce the borough to join in with the bigger idea. Not only Hamilton, but the whole of the district, was affected, and if Hamilton came into the bigger scheme doubtless the charges would come down rnalerially over the whole district. The Premier said he would take the mailer up with the Department, and this would lead to the opening of discussions between the two bodies.
