CAUSED BY STRIKE.
STEAMERS LAID UP. NO PROSPECT OF SETTLEMENT BOTH SIDES STAND FIRM. (Received 10 a.m.) SYDNEY May 31. Owing to the shortage of coal, thb inter-State passenger steamers, Katoomba and Zcalandia will be laid up when they reach Sydney. The Queensland passenger steamers will continue on a limited scale, the steamers being able to secure bunkers at Brisbane. Additional cargo steamers have also been laid up. There is no apparent prospect of an early settlement of the coal trouble. Both sides are standing firm. The Miners' Delegate Board will meet to-morrow and the Engine Drivers' Executive is to meet daily till the dispute ends.
