THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS

A CHANGED ATTITUDE. SPIRIT -OF SELF-SACRIFICE. DESIRE FOR A WAY OUT. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.? LONDON, March 16. Telegrams from Geneva yesterday slated that the spirit of recalcitrance had suddenly changed to the keenest desire to find a way out. This almost amounted to .self-sacrifice. It followed the lead of M. Linden in offering on behalf of Sweden to vacate her seat in favour of Poland. Although this was acceptable to all the other Powers it was not acceptable to the German representatives, because they said it meant replacing neutral Sweden with Francophile Poland. According to one report the, delegates from Yugoslavia, Czecho-Slo-akia and Roumania conferred and decided to offer Czechoslovakia's resignation from the Council. The ilea was that Poland should replace her and that Holland should take Sweden's place. TWs solution was regarded most hopefully. Brazil again threatened yesterday lo veto Germany. Consequently 11 South American States jointly cabled urging the Brazilian Government not to veto Germany, whose election was purely a European affair and only of secondary importance to Brazil. If the latter acquiesces there is a chance of ending the impasse. The reason for the postponement of the meeting of the Assembly of the League until Wednesday is to give time in which to settle the crisis. In this connection M- Paul Boncur (France) exprosres the opinion that all will go well. The Council is expected to meet again on Thursday.
