Herr Strescmann announced that Sweden has resigned iter seat on the Council lo make room for Poland, as a solution of Iho imbroglio. A late message from Geneva states that Sir Austen Chamberlain last evening referred lo the difficulties created by a non-European nation. This his hearers understood to mean Brazil. Commenting on the statement the Morning Post says there is considerable danger of outside Powers, who are not greatly interested in European politics, taking advantage of the situation. Reports received yesterday from Geneva were very gloomy. A meeting of the Council had been arranged, but was postponed and replaced by private conversations which did not, appear to have advanced the situation. Sir Austen Chamberlain admitted that the position was stil! confused. It was seriously reported from one source that Brazil had revived her intention of vetoing Germany’s seat on the Council. There was a growing feeling yesterday that the time was overdue for the Assembly to bo called together in order that those responsible for the creation of tho existing obstacles should take the responsibility for their action. The British view of the crisis was that hope should imt bn abandoned until a catastrophe occurred. The delegates did not, However, sec how the ciash was to be averted.
